Help with software install

successfully installed bluestar program on laptop. When I connect to bluestar with USB to mini B plug I do not get a "New device found" message and and no new window for USB converter insallation as stated in the programming utility user guide. When I look in device manager under universal serial bus controllers there is no USB Serial Converter listed. Just purchased bluestar 2010hardware, assume it is latest verison but need to look at raising speaker volume from the utility program since I am unable to do so from the mirror. Having a lot of problems with getting the Iphone 5 to work properly and want to see if accessing utility program will improve things before I make the decision to return the Bluestar for refund. Iphone successfully paired, doesn't always link and appears mirror buttons do not do what they are supposed to. Older samsung cell functions better. Hoping someone can help change my dissappointment in this product to one of satisfaction.
