I was able to figure it out. Made sure I had the newest firmware on Bluestar 2010 and newest DSP firmware. Then I had to check the A2DP and HFP profiles. Then I had to erase Bluetooth pairs and re-sync it then everything worked.

Hi Mel, I know it's a bit late, but where music is played is controlled from the iPhone. In most apps that play music and video (e.g. youTube, Music, iTunes, Vimeo, Videos, etc) there will be an additional control next to the play/skip/pause/scrub buttons that looks like a little computer screen icon. It will only show in most cases where you are connected to another device that can stream audio, such as the BlueStar. When streaming audio to one of these external devices, the icon show lit up in blue. Otherwise, it is grey if available but not in use.

Additionally, outside of any apps, you can control the audio destination for any video or audio that is playing by doing a double-tap of the home button, which brings up the app switcher menu at the bottom of the iPhone screen, and then if you flick left, you will see media controls and the same streaming icon.
