The latest BlueSTAR II model has a new USB chip which does not load the virtual com port (VCP) drivers by default. The IC mfg is aware of this issue, has issued an errata for it, and has fixed it in the new silicon. In the meantime, (until we release a new CPU that will have the drivers with it) you must follow these steps to enable it manually:

1. Open Device Manager
2. Open Universal Serial Bus Controllers
3. Double click on USB Serial Converter
4. Click on Advanced Tab
5. Click on Load VCP
6. Unplug BlueSTAR
7. Plug back in to load driver

This should then load the VCP driver and allow the CoSTAR Programming Utility to communicate with the BlueSTAR.

Hi mrcostar,

Is the "BlueSTAR II" a new device or is that another name for the BlueSTAR 2010?

Hi John,
The BlueSTAR II is the same device, but it is already modified for improved A2DP performance.
It also has the DSP code already installed.
Users with this device need only upgrade the CFW and .txt files to get streaming working.

STEP 4. Click on Advanced Tab does not exist on my Windows 7 Computer.
I have 3 options at the top, not 4. Description states...This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I also borrowed a Windows XP laptop and tried assuming it was a compatability issue however no luck. I cannot install the FTDI drivers suggested in the directions.

Greetings, I purchased the Bluestar unit in early summer and at that time I was running windows 7 on my laptop I was able to install the programming utility and everything worked fine. Since then I've upgraded to windows 8. Last night I connected my laptop to the COSTAR interface and everything froze up on me. I disconnected the usb cable restarted the laptop now I'm getting this message saying that COSTAR device not found also it's saying not able to read version. After doing a little bit of research I understand that I should possible update the VCP drivers for Windows 8.1. I downloaded the drivers unzipped the package now I'm stuck. I'm not sure what file to install or where to install it. Can anyone help me out? Also is there a way that I can reset the interface back to the factory setting?
I guess my laptop would have to communicate with the COSTAR unit in order to do this. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
I wish there was a Tech support number I could use.
I miss using my BlueStar unit :?
